Health Department screenings for vision and hearing protect DuPage County children

DUPAGE COUNTY—The DuPage County Health Department is proud to offer vision and hearing screenings to DuPage County children in preschools, daycare facilities and public and private schools.

Certified hearing and vision screening technicians provide screenings to check for vision and hearing deficiencies. In the event that deficiencies in either area are detected, the technicians follow up with families to make sure the necessary diagnostic testing is accessible and provided.

Health Department staff link uninsured and underinsured families with community resources where the child can receive follow-up examinations if necessary.

Identifying vision and hearing deficiencies at an early age will lessen the likelihood these deficiencies will turn into learning disorders and behavioral problems and serves as the goal for this program. Vision and hearing information is provided to parents, school staff and the community.

This service is available throughout DuPage County. Interested persons should contact their schools or they may call the Health Department at (630) 682-7400 to get additional program and related fee information.
