COD nursing program awarded national accreditation

The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission awarded initial accreditation to the College of DuPage Associate Degree Nursing program. The next evaluation is scheduled for spring 2016.

“While valuable to the College and the nursing program, this accreditation is also very important to our students and our graduates who continue their education, as well as the employers of those graduates,” said Dr. Vickie Gukenberger, COD Director of Nursing. “We are celebrating this recognition and its intention of continuing to provide a contemporary nursing program with quality student outcomes and success."

The NLNAC is nationally recognized for the specialized accreditation of nursing education programs, including clinical doctorate, master's degree, baccalaureate degree, associate degree, diploma, and practical nursing programs.

The rigorous accreditation standards and criteria set by NLNAC include a review of the ADN program's mission and administrative capacity, faculty and staff credentials, student services, curriculum, physical resources, and demonstration of student learning and outcomes.

“We congratulate Vickie Gukenberger and the faculty and staff members who took part in this process for their diligence in obtaining this important accreditation for the ADN program,” said College of DuPage President Dr. Robert L. Breuder. “The NLNAC accreditation is a direct reflection of the excellence that has gone into the development and execution of this program.”

The Associate Degree Nursing program is one of three entry-level pathways to nursing at College of DuPage. The ADN program is a sequential, two-year program that begins every fall semester and prepares students both academically and clinically for a career in the care of acutely and chronically ill people. The college also offers certified nursing assistant and practical nursing programs.

In addition to the NLNAC accreditation, the ADN program at COD is approved by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation/Board of Nursing and the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB) and received reaccreditation in 2008 by The Higher Learning Commission – North Central Association.
