Elgin's oldest sports venue hosts Thunder on the Fox June 18-19
McGrath Marketing Group in conjunction with the City of Elgin, and Met Life is pleased to announce the inaugural “Thunder on the Fox” OPC Professional Boat race on tour with APR Superleague.
Pete Garlock, director of sales for the Elgin Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and Northwest Chicagoland Sports Commission, weighed in after all the hard work of helping bring this event to the area. “We are thrilled that a unique event like The Thunder on the Fox is coming to the Elgin Area! For years teams have enjoyed the first-class sports venues located in our region, like the Elgin Sports Complex, the Centre of Elgin, Trout Park and the Leafs Ice Centre. But this is the first time in my seven years of bringing sporting events to the area that we are utilizing such a magnificent and impressive venue as the Fox River!
Seeing these powerful machines roar up and down the Fox River will be electrifying for all ages, and what a thrill to have the chance to meet these drivers at a very special Thunder on the Fox black-tie gala celebration to kick things off on Friday night! And having one of Elgin's own sons, Jim McGrath, head up these events makes it ever more special.
We're excited to have the racers and their family and friends come from all over the country and enjoy the wonderful dining, great shopping, exciting attractions and first-rate accommodations the Elgin Area has to provide. We look forward to this group returning and racing here for many years to come.”
The race will be held just north of the Gail Borden Library on Grove Avenue in Elgin, Saturday, June 18 and Sunday, June 19.
