Softball/Fox Valley roundup

Freshman Jennah Perryman blasted a home run in the top of the sixth inning to tie the game while her older sister Hannah Perryman hit a 2-run homer in the top of the seventh to give Elgin’s softball team a 3-1 nonconference win at Downers Grove South Monday.

Jennah Perryman (5-2) also earned the victory in the circle for Elgin (10-4) as she surrendered just 4 hits and 3 walks while striking out two in a complete-game effort.

The Maroons have now won 4 in a row.

McHenry 21, Dundee-Crown 8 (5 innings): The Chargers pounded out 14 hits to score 8 runs, but came up short defensively as they had 7 errors in a Fox Valley Conference loss to visiting McHenry. Amanda Eissler paced the Chargers with a home run, double, and single while Jessie Lewandowski and Melany Love (2 RBI) added a double and single each. Eissler suffered the loss giving up 10 hits and 4 walks while striking out 4.

Wheaton Academy 12, St. Edward 5: The Green Wave (0-6) were unable to pull out a victory as they were defeated in this Suburban Christian Conference crossover game. Sarah Field led the way with a 2-for-3 effort from the plate with an RBI while Ashley Gradisher was 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Field (0-6) suffered the loss in the circle surrendering 9 hits, 6 earned runs, and 3 walks while striking out seven.

Cary-Grove 5, Huntley 1: The Trojans (8-1, 1-0) bounced back from their lone loss of the season to defeat the Red Raiders (3-7, 0-1) in Fox Valley Conference play. Lindsay Efflandt (6-1) led the Trojans in the circle as she threw a 3-hitter while allowing 2 walks and striking out seven. Emma Gaulke (HR, 2 RBI) and Taylor Dunne each went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Trojans offensively while Kelsey Hagen was responsible for Huntley’s lone run with a home run in the top of the third inning. Taylor Larson (2-5) took the loss as she gave up 9 hits and struck out six.

Genoa-Kingston 13, Hampshire 4: The Whip-Purs (2-7) struggled defensively as they committed 7 errors in their nonconference loss to Genoa-Kingston. Jen Hurst led the Whips going 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run. Elisa Wood (1-3) took the loss surrendering 11 hits, 9 walks and 2 earned runs while striking out five in a complete-game effort.

Bartlett 3, Streamwood 0: The Hawks shut out the Sabres (1-7, 0-3) at home to earn this Upstate Eight Conference victory. Nicole Beck led the Hawks with a double, triple, and 2 runs scored while Britt Idler added a double. Jen Mellinthin and Brittany Delao paced the Sabres’ offense with 2-for-3 efforts at the plate. Tory Burke (2-2) earned the victory as she scattered 4 hits and 1 walk while striking out seven in 7 innings of work. Kelsey Johnson pitched well but suffered the loss as she surrender 4 hits and 2 walks in her complete-game effort.

Westminster Christian 15, Hinckley-Big Rock 8: The Warriors’ (3-3) bats came alive as they pounded out 15 hits en route to a victory over Hinckley-Big Rock on the road. Rachel Fugiel (5-for-5, double, triple, 5 RBI) and Katie Moeller (4-for-5, 2 doubles, 4 runs) paced the Warriors offensively. Moeller (2-1) also picked up the victory in the circle as she threw a no-hitter while striking out five and allowing 4 walks.
