Wheaton North clinches share of DVC crown

Wheaton North 11, WW South 1: The Falcons (23-4, 16-4) clinched a share of their second straight DuPage Valley Conference title by scoring all their runs in the final four innings. A win Wednesday seals the outright title. Trey Martin led the offense by blasting his eighth and ninth homers of the season and driving in 4 runs. Jeff Schalk also homered. Jack DeAno, who doubled twice, fired a 6-hitter to improve to 7-1.

Waubonsie Valley 14, Larkin 3: Sam Carius doubled twice, homered and drove in 6 runs as the Warriors (17-11, 16-5) pulled even in the loss column with Neuqua Valley atop the Upstate Eight Conference standings. Jeff Brown homered twice and Sean Smith had 4 RBI. Kris Singh (4-4) went the distance in the six-inning game.

Bartlett 5, Neuqua Valley 4: The Wildcats (21-10, 15-5) tied the game with a 4-run top of the fifth, but Bartlett scored the Upstate Eight Conference game-winner in the bottom of the inning. Ryan Wagner and Mike Gerber each had 2 hits for Neuqua Valley.

Benet 8, Marian Catholic 6: Connor Reilly's 2-run single in the bottom of the sixth capped a 3-run rally for the Redwings (18-11, 11-6) in their East Suburban Catholic Conference win. Pat Gelwicks and Mac Coffey each went 2-for-3. Eric Patzelt (2-1) allowed no earned runs in 51/3 innings of relief to pick up the win.

Glenbard South 12, Rochelle 2: The Raiders (16-16, 7-12) burst to a 9-0 lead after two innings in their Western Sun Conference win. Joe Ramirez doubled, homered and drove in 3 runs. Sterling Smith also homered. David Suffern (4-4) was the complete-game winning pitcher, striking out nine and walking none.

Glenbard East 9, Glenbard North 4: Andrew Edwards (2-6) gutted out the complete-game win for the Rams (10-19, 7-13) in the DuPage Valley Conference. Nick Hogan launched a 3-run homer. Steve Cocat homered for Glenbard North (11-17, 5-15).

West Chicago 12, West Aurora 1: Kevin Peterson's fourth-inning grand slam was followed by Tyler Christ's solo shot as the Wildcats (14-16, 7-13) rolled to a six-inning DuPage Valley Conference win. Winning pitcher Jordan Long (5-5) allowed only 4 hits.

Willowbrook 7, Leyden 4: Chris Savas had a bases-clearing double to key a 6-run sixth inning for the Warriors (22-9, 13-5) in their West Suburban Gold win. Brian Monette (5-2) was the complete-game winning pitcher, striking out seven and walking two.

Montini 4, Westminster Christian 1: Tom Kurtz had a 2-run single in the second inning and Jeff Spokas added a 2-run single in the third for the Broncos (15-7) in their nonconference win. Kevin Glennon and Spokas each had 3 hits while Trace Headrick (1-0) was the winning pitcher.
