Shana Martin, national spokeswoman for Team HOPE and champion logroller on ESPN's Summer Outdoor Games, will be on hand to discuss her family's struggle with the disease. Huntington's is a fatal neurological disorder that affects more than 30,000 people in the United States. Siblings and children of those affected face a 50 percent chance of developing the disease. • The ninth annual Annie Ryan Fun Run 5K will be Sunday starting from York Road and South Streets in Elmhurst. Registration and check-in will be from 7 to 8:45 a.m.; the 5K starts at 9 a.m. and the Kids Running For Kids one-mile dash for children in grades one through eight follows at 9:45 a.m. The event also will include family activities such as face painting, raffles, ice cream and more. The cost for the 5K is $20 in advance and $25 on race day. The cost for the one-mile dash is $12. Proceeds benefit the Midwest Children's Brain Tumor Center of Advocate Lutheran General Children's Hospital. The Annie Ryan Fun Run was established by the family of former Illinois Attorney General Jim Ryan and his wife, Marie, in memory of their daughter Annie. Annie died at age 12 from a brain tumor. • The second annual Owen M. Payton 5K Heart Walk/Run will be Sunday starting from 2N205 Ethel Road, West Chicago. Registration and check-in will be from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. and the walk/run begins at 10 a.m. The cost is $25, with a fundraising minimum of $150 per participant. Proceeds will benefit the cardiothoracic surgery department at Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. The event was organized in honor of Owen Payton, now 2, who was born with a congenital heart defect and already has had three surgeries and will need more. • The Illinois Wireless Association will hold a benefit for the family of Mark Turkula from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Sunday at the Itasca Country Club, 400 E.
