Kane County Clerk's Office announces ballot position lottery for November General Election

The Office of Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham held the lottery May 7 for the ballot position of the major parties for the Nov. 6 General Election.

Pursuant to state statute, election authorities like the Kane County Clerk's Office shall determine the order of placement of established political party candidates for the general election ballot by a fair and impartial method of random selection, such as a lottery.

Cunningham said, "The clerk's office conducts the ballot position lottery as a fair and transparent method of determining the placement of candidates on the ballot. We continue to do our best to administer impartial and open elections every step of the way from candidate filing to ballot certification."

The two major parties, the Democratic and Republican Party, were involved in today's lottery. The Republican Party was selected at random. As a result, candidates from the Republican Party will appear first on the Nov. 6 General Election ballot, followed by candidates from the Democratic Party.

Any independent or new party candidates who secure a ballot position will follow the major party candidates. A ballot position lottery for independent or new party candidates would occur, if necessary, after the filing deadline for those candidates.
