Kane County Clerk's office to offer Passport Day May 12

Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham announced that the clerk's office will host the next Saturday passport event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at the clerk's office, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Bldg. B, Geneva, to process and answer questions about passport applications.

The Saturday passport events are part of the Accessibility Program initiative to increase the accessibility of services provided by the clerk's office for residents outside of the normal business hours and locations. More than 225 passport applications have been completed at the first three Saturday passport events in 2018, and hundreds of other individuals with passport questions were also served.

Cunningham said, "With summer vacation quickly approaching, I want to remind families planning to travel this summer to come to the office to apply for their passports. For those who cannot come to the office during our normal weekday hours, the Saturday passport events offer another opportunity for everyone to have access to the services provided by the county clerk's office."

Applicants usually receive passports in six to eight weeks after completing their application, so those planning summer vacations are encouraged to plan accordingly.

Requirements for a passport application include valid photo identification, a certified copy of the applicant's birth certificate, and a check or money order for payment; fees depend on the type of passport documents sought. Copies of birth certificates for those born in Kane County can be purchased at the clerk's office. Passport photography is available at the clerk's office for $15 per person.

Information about passport fees, acceptable forms of identification, and the passport photography service can be found at www.kanecountyclerk.org/Records/Passports/passports.aspx or by calling (630) 232-5964.

Application forms are also available on the clerk's website.

For those who cannot attend the Saturday Passport event, normal hours for passport applications at the Clerk's Office are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday.

The Kane County Clerk's Office is an authorized acceptance agency for passports and processes more than 2,700 passport applications annually. The clerk's office is responsible for many functions, including keeping the county's official records, acting as registrar of vital records, administering all elections in the county, and tax extension for all of the county's taxing bodies. The clerk's office provides information and resources to residents through the clerk's website at www.kanecountyclerk.org, twitter.com/KaneCoILClerk and www.facebook.com/kanecountyclerk.
