Help plant oak trees at Dick Young Forest Preserve Sept. 30

Help plant hundreds of oak trees in under three hours!

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County is calling for volunteers of all ages to help plant trees at Dick Young Forest Preserve as part of National Public Lands Day.

This tree-planting event is one of many that will take place across the country on Sept. 30.

National Public Lands Day is America's largest single-day volunteer event dedicated to improving public lands.

Tree planting begins at 10 a.m. sharp, and will last until all oaks are planted (or 1 p.m. - whichever comes first).

Please bring work gloves if you prefer. Holes are pre-dug. They need volunteers to plant the trees, tamp down dirt, water and mulch. It's easy!

They also will have seed collection and brush-clearing groups. This is a great event for families, scouts, groups or individuals.

Be a part of planting trees that will last for hundreds of years, and that future generations will enjoy.

Groups of less than 10 do not need to register in advance. Groups of 10 or more should contact the volunteer coordinator at (630) 762-2741 or e-mail volunteer@kaneforest.com to RSVP.

Dick Young Forest Preserve is located at 39W115 Main St., Batavia. Please use the Main Street entrance.
