Fox Valley Wildlife Center to host open house Oct. 1

The Fox Valley Wildlife Center will hold an open house from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 1, at the center, 45W061 Route 38, Elburn.

This is the only day of the year where supporters are able to tour the wildlife center facility and grounds. Visitors can meet the education animals, Lucy, Yodi, Zihna, Ciega, Wooka, Ernie and Bernadette, Toby, Lancelot and Waldo.

You also can visit with the horses and rangers that make up the Kane County Mounted Rangers and learn about reptiles from the Midwest Museum of Natural History.

There will be games for kids, a pie walk, a bake sale with Kuiper's donuts and cider, pumpkin painting, a treasure hunt, and tours of the facility.

All rehab animals will be moved out of the rehab rooms so that you may view the rooms, not the animals. Only education ambassadors may be touched and talked to.

No reservation is required; just come as you are and enjoy the fun and learn a little. If it's a nice a day a walk through Elburn Woods Forest Preserve will conclude your day.

In order to have a successful open house, they need your help. They have many areas that need "helping hands."

Volunteers are needed to help clean the building, inside and out, on Saturday, Sept. 30.

They also need items for the bake sale such as pumpkin bread, chocolate chip cookies, or brownies. The wrapped baked goods can be dropped off at the center on Saturday, Sept. 30 or on the morning of the open house.

They also need volunteers to help with games, crafts and more at the open house. Supporters can mingle with attendees on a crisp fall day and share their experiences with the center.
