Register to vote for General Election by Oct. 11

Kane County Clerk John A. Cunningham reminds Kane County residents that the last day to register to vote for the Nov. 8 General Election is Tuesday, Oct. 11.

Most libraries, municipal and township offices in Kane County accept registrations until Oct. 11.

Kane County residents may check their registration online by going to www.kanecountyelections.org, click on "Are you registered" and follow the directions on the page.

To register, a person must be a United States citizen, 18 years of age on or before Nov. 8, be a resident of the precinct for 30 days prior to the election, and provide two forms of identification, one of which shows their current name and address.

Early voting for the General Election began Thursday, Sept. 29, at the Kane County Clerk's office.

Grace period registration is an extension of the period of time for a voter to register to vote or to update their registration information. If you register to vote during the grace period and want to vote in the upcoming election, you must vote at the time of registration.

Beginning Oct. 12 through Nov. 8, grace period registration and voting will be available in the Kane County Clerk's office. Two forms of identification are required.

Early voting will begin Monday, Oct. 24, through Monday, Nov. 7. Five permanent early voting sites include Kane County Clerk's office, 719 S. Batavia Ave., Building B, Geneva; Kane County Branch Court, 530 S. Randall Road in St. Charles; Carpentersville Fire Station No. 3, 5000 Sleepy Hollow Road, Carpentersville; Gail Borden Public Library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin; and the Elgin Township Office, 729 S. McLean Blvd. in Elgin, will offer extended hours, including Saturdays and Sundays. Grace period registration will be available at all early voting sites.

The Kane County Clerk's Voter Registration Office is in Building B at the Kane County Government Center, 719 S. Batavia Ave. (Route 31) in Geneva. Registration will resume Thursday, Nov. 10.
