Sharing Connections Hosts 12th Annual Golf Outing
DOWNERS GROVE, IL, September 22, 2015 - A beautiful September day at Seven Bridges Golf Club in Woodridge offered 124 golfers a chance to enjoy the game, compete in special contests and help Sharing Connections at the same time. The event, sponsored by Arco Murray, is an annual benefit for Sharing Connections, a furniture bank serving DuPage County and the general Chicagoland area. Neuco, Inc., Navistar and UBS also sponsored the event providing lunch and the 19th hole after party. Local businesses sponsored a few of the golf carts used for the event. Several additional guests joined the event for the party and paddle raise fundraising.
Many local businesses and donors provided items for the silent auction, which included tickets to concert events, baseball and football games, artwork and golf, spa and dinner packages.
"This annual fundraiser is crucial to our vision - 'tonight, everyone eats at a table and sleeps in a bed'," said Executive Director, Carrie Provenzale. "During our paddle raise activity, 55 of our attendees pledged to sponsor 52 families and purchase 34 cribs. We provide about $1,500 in value of goods to our families in need. These pledges will go a long way to help us help others."
At the event, Leeanne McGrath, founder of Sharing Connections, shared the story of the first crib donated and given to a mother in need. She emphasized how the organization's mission, "share good things with good people," guides its donors and volunteers to help many, including individuals previously homeless, the unemployed and working poor, veterans, victims of domestic violence, immigrants, individuals with mental or physical disabilities, and victims of fire, flood and natural disasters.
"We are so grateful to our all of our event sponsors, volunteers, golfers and dinner guests for making our 12th annual golf outing so successful," adds Provenzale. "Monday we met many generous individuals and companies. It was priceless reassurance to have others join our cause, show compassion for our families and share their gifts."
