Downers Grove Choral Society Begins Its 57th Season

The Downers Grove Choral Society is in preparation for the 2015-2016 season, its 57th. Artistic Director, Dr. John Patrick Rakes, will lead the Society in three unique concerts.

"Wondrous Baroque," Sunday, November15, 2015, in the Downers Grove First Methodist Church, features the J. S. Bach Christ Lag in Todesbanden, the Vivaldi Gloria as well as additional works by Bach and Schütz. "Sacred Mysteries," Sunday, February 21, 2016, at Grace United Methodist Church in Naperville, brings together the Britten Rejoice in the Lamb, the Vaughn Williams Five Mystical Songs, and includes additional works by Parry, Williams and Finzi. "Prayers of Remembrance," Sunday, May 1, 2016, in the Downers Grove First United Methodist Church, combines the Premiere Orchestral Version of the Paul Scherer Kaddish and the W. A. Mozart Requiem.

The Downers Grove Choral Society, an auditioned choral ensemble, holds rehearsals Monday evenings from 7:30 - 9:45 p.m., in the Milnes Room at Indian Boundary YMCA, 711 59th Street, Downers Grove. The rehearsal schedule begins Monday, August 24, 2015. Members are responsible for yearly dues and the cost of music for each concert. The concert music is primarily classical and often includes lighter music for other occasions.

Downers Grove Choral Society not only presents three concerts each season, but also performs two Outreach concerts and participates in the annual Downers Grove tree lighting as well as the Fourth of July Parade. In addition, DGCS participates in the Giving DuPage Human Race and VFW Memorial Day ceremonies.
