Weekend getaway offered for families who are grieving

When a loved one dies, families with young children face special challenges.

Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice is offering "Grief Takes a Hike," a weekend getaway for families with children, age 5 to 18, where they can find help coping with a death loss of a loved one - be it a mother, father, grandparent, child or other significant person.

During "Grief Takes a Hike," families who have lost loved ones come together in a supportive setting, sharing and processing feelings, while experiencing the therapeutic value of nature. The program is designed to help families realize that they are more than their grief, to put order and unity back in their lives, and give them the tools to move on.

It will be held at Inspiration Center in Walworth, Wisconsin, from July 31 through Aug. 2.

The program is available to families at no cost, and includes transportation from Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice offices in Geneva, lodging, meals and activities.

Reservations are due by Monday, July 6, with a $50 refundable deposit.
