Local Christmas Program Serves 2,014 Underprivileged Children
After the conclusion of its annual Christmas Offering last month, the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP,) of DuPage County, has announced that it served 2,014 children, from local families in need, with gifts this holiday season. Additionally, 126 needy senior citizens received gifts, and over 400 families received groceries through this program. This was the largest and most successful Christmas Offering since its foundation in 1979.
The 2,014 children served represents an increase of over 400 children compared to the 1,600 served by the program in 2013. Each child received a minimum of three Christmas gifts, many of which were donated by members of the community. Hundreds of community members, from individuals to corporations, participated in the success of the program by donating toys, food, funds, or volunteering their time.
In response to results of the program, HSP's Executive Director Kristin Maxwell said, "The number of children we served this year does show that there are still many families in need of help in our community. Thanks to the generosity and kindness of so many, the families, children, and seniors we serve, received the support they need."
