McHenry’s Reiser rises to FVC challenge
That No. 130 in McHenry’s lineup is quite the runner.
Jesse Reiser began his cross country career back in sixth grade. And now, five years later, he’s got the quite the racing resume going.
“I’ve lost one race this year and won the rest,’’ Reiser said.
Add one more win to his record.
On Saturday at the Fox Valley Conference meet in Woodstock, his time of 15:30.5 was four seconds ahead of the second-place finisher, Pitner Ryan of Crystal Lake Central.
“We went out really fast,’’ Reiser said. “And then we began to separate. I had about a 30-meter lead. And then Pitner made his move.’’
Reiser is quick to credit the McHenry program for his run of successes.
“All my coaches and teammates push me,’’ he said. “We’ve improved a lot since our first race.”
Also breaking the 16-minute mark was Huntley’s Keagan Smith (15: 56.4).
Winning the team event was Crystal Lake Central (59).
Jacobs and fourth-place finisher Matthew Johnson was second (88).
Grayslake Central was a solid fourth (139). Kevin Orozco, Max Brunk and Jack Battaglia were all named all-conference for the Rams.
Ryan Bruder of Grayslake North landed in seventh place (16:16.7).
