May 'Images' Highlights EMT/Nursing Simulation, GED Program

“Images,” College of DuPage's monthly one-half hour television show, features in its May edition segments on a recent collaborated simulation between EMT and Nursing students and testimonials on the College's GED program.

Each month, Images highlights the personalities, news and curriculum of a vibrant College of DuPage campus. The show airs on 13 area cable television stations.

The May edition includes a segment on the first-ever pediatric emergency simulation between the Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and Nursing program students at College of DuPage. The young patient was in fact a high-tech pediatric simulator or mannequin that has advanced functions such as moaning, coughing, vomiting, pupil dilatations and seizure activity. The patient's blood pressure, respirations, heart rate and temperature can also be changed and controlled by the instructors in charge of the simulation.

EMT students stabilized the patient in the tactical village of the new Homeland Security Education Center, a 66,000 square-foot building that features a full-scale tactical village for police force-on-force training, a smoke room and full-size ambulance for firefighter/EMT courses, an outside high tower for rappelling exercises, as well as forensics and cybercrimes laboratories.

After calling in the emergency, EMT students rushed their patient to the College's new Hospital Simulation Lab in the Health and Sciences Center, where COD Nursing students took over to assess and treat the patient.

This month's edition also includes segments on the College's Architecture and Accounting programs, including interviews with former and current students.

Also featured is a segment on the College's Adult Basic Education program, which offered free GED Prep courses. Former students offer their kudos on the free program, which is designed to help adults lacking a high school diploma.

Images airs at various times on cable television stations in Downers Grove, Wheaton, Addison, Elmhurst, Glen Ellyn, Naperville, Glendale Heights, Bartlett, Lemont, Elk Grove, Darien, Aurora and West Chicago. Check local cable listings for times and channels.
