Cizek’s single breaks eighth-inning deadlock

Anna Cizek’s two-out single in the bottom of the eighth scored pinch runner Haleigh Yerkes, giving Neuqua Valley a dramatic 4-3 win over Metea Valley on Thursday.

In the eighth Madison Bartlett singled, Alyssa Domico walked and Carly Cervantez singled, setting up Cizek’s game-winner for Neuqua (8-6, 5-2 Upstate Eight Conference). Jamie O’Brien (1-3) got the win, striking out five.

Naperville Central 9, WW South 0:Maddi Doane doubled and scored a run in the first inning, and added a two-run single in the second, and Laura Dierking hit a solo homer in the third for the No. 1 Redhawks (15-0, 3-0 DuPage Valley Conference). Courtney Giebel had 3 hits and Dierking and Megan Nerger 2 apiece. Keegan Hayes (10-0) threw four innings for the win and Julie Kestas struck out eight in relief.Fenton 3, Ridgewood 2:Hannah Wassmann doubled to lead off the bottom of the ninth, advanced to third on a single by winning pitcher Dana Fritz and scored the winning run on a passed ball for the host Bison (12-6, 1-3 Metro Suburban Conference). Glenbard North 14, Glenbard East 0:Ashley Stiver was 3-for-3 with 5 runs batted in and Lindsey Cherry (7-2) threw her third shutout of the season for No. 4 Glenbard North (9-2, 2-1 DVC).Montini 12, Guerin 0:Zoe Dannenberg and Amy Bukovsky combined on a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 10, for the Broncos (14-3, 8-0 Suburban Christian Conference Blue), who won their eighth straight heading into a Friday showdown with St. Francis. Cristina Barrett hit a two-run homer and Emily Lezcano went deep with a solo shot.Glenbard South 9, Illiana Christian:Stephanie Chitkowski (6-0) struck out 15, twirling a one-hitter, for the No. 7 Raiders (13-1, 6-0 Metro Suburban Conference).
