Sensory friendly vaccine clinic for COVID and flu offered Dec. 3 in Wheaton

Blue Bird Day Program and Eyas Landing pediatric therapies have partnered with Broadway Medical Center to host sensory friendly vaccine clinics at all three locations.

COVID-19 vaccines, boosters, and flu shots will be available for adults and children ages 5 and up.

These clinics are ideal for neurodiverse individuals with autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, Down syndrome, and other sensory conditions.

The therapy teams will be on-site with visual schedules, sensory toys, noise canceling headphones, and additional supports. Masks are not required for children or adults whose sensory conditions prevent them from consistently wearing masks, but are encouraged when possible.

These clinics will be held at the following dates and locations:

• Friday, Dec. 3: Wheaton vaccine clinic, 140 E. Loop Road, from 3 to 5 p.m.

• Saturday, Dec. 4: West Loop vaccine clinic, 310 N Loomis St. in Chicago. from 8 to 10 a.m.; and Northcenter vaccine clinic, 1921 W. Irving Park Road in Chicago, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

"We are honored to offer accessible vaccine clinics for the neurodiverse community in Chicago and Wheaton. It's important to build spaces that allow individuals with sensory conditions to gain access to vital services that protect their health and the well-being of the community," said Dr. Laura Mraz, occupational therapist, child development specialist, and founder of Eyas Landing and Blue Bird Day.

Blue Bird Day Program offers intensive therapy to children with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome, and other conditions in a preschool and kindergarten-like setting. Instead of teachers, we employ specialized therapists who work together to help their clients improve learning, socialization, speech, and sensory regulation. The multidisciplinary team includes occupational therapists, speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, developmental therapists, behavioral therapists, social workers, and a nutritionist, all focused on the growth and well-being of our clients and their caregivers.

Eyas Landing is a multidisciplinary therapeutic clinic for infants to young adults in the West Loop of Chicago. Established in 2007 by occupational therapist and child development specialist, Dr. Laura Mraz, Eyas Landing is now the leading multidisciplinary therapeutic clinic specializing in Sensory Integration, Early Intervention and relationship-based therapy.
