Whether you are searching for a new career, have just completed military service or recently graduated from high school, the College of Lake County offers hundreds of career and transfer courses in the Fall Semester that begins Aug. 19. This fall includes scholarship opportunities in career programs related to manufacturing and health care. The Metallica Scholars Initiative, funded by the Grammy Award-winning band's All Within My Hands Foundation, in partnership with the American Association of Community Colleges, provides scholarships and services for a cohort of 50 students in five manufacturing areas. They include mechatronics/automation, photonics/lasers, welding, automotive and computer numerical control.
Additionally, a grant from the Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County is designed to help current or prospective students planning to enroll in a health care career certificate or degree program in the 2019-20 academic year. Known as the Scholarships Promoting Lake County Affordable and Sustainable Healthcare, or SPLASH, the funding covers the Fall 2019 and Spring 2020 Semesters. With an application deadline of Sept. 6, each scholarship pays for a maximum of 12 credits of tuition per semester, including comprehensive fees. If you're unsure about what career to pursue, you can learn more at free information sessions. Each session lasts about an hour and includes an overview of the career field, salary, job outlook and educational requirements. If you need to complete a GED (high school equivalency), learn English as a Second Language or build basic competency in reading, writing and math, the Adult Basic Education, ESL and GED division offers free courses at all three campuses and other Lake County locations that also begin Aug. 21 or later.
