Veteran artists, performers and writers have until Feb. 22 to enter annual Lovell Federal Health Care Center Veterans Creative Arts Festival

Veterans enrolled for care at the FHCC may enter in many art, writing, music and dance categories

NORTH CHICAGO, Ill. - The Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC) will hold its annual Veterans Creative Arts Festival March 14, 2019 at the College of Lake County (CLC) to highlight the artwork, creative writing and musical talents of area veterans.

Veterans enrolled for care at any of Lovell FHCC's clinics or at the main hospital may enter in art, music, dance and writing categories. Art categories are painting; sculpture; drawing; photography; wood, leather and model kits, and pottery. Performance categories include dance (including wheelchair dance), drama (including comedy), solo and group vocal and instrumental acts, vocal original compositions, and special recognition. Veterans also may submit creative writing entries to include essays, poetry and short stories.

Entries will be accepted at the FHCC from noon to 5 p.m., Feb. 18-22, Bldg. 131, Level 1- Recreation Activity Room, 3001 Green Bay Road, North Chicago, Ill. The deadline to enter is Feb. 22. For information, contact Tricia Stewart, 224-610-3617, tricia.stewart@va.gov; or Elizabeth La Combe, 224-610-5886, Elizabeth.lacombe@va.gov.

The festival provides veterans the opportunity to participate in creative self-expression in art and performance and to gain recognition. Local artists, musicians and writers will judge the creative entries and determine places in each category. First-place finishers may be eligible to advance on to the national level, where they will compete against veterans from other Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) facilities around the country.

The Lovell FHCC 2018 Veterans Creative Arts Festival will take place from 1 to 3 p.m., March 14, in the A Wing Conference Center and Auditorium, Lower Level, at the College of Lake County, 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake, Ill.
