Advocate Sherman Hospital to offer free hernia screenings in Huntley

Surgical experts at Advocate Sherman Hospital in Elgin are offering a free hernia screening event between 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 2 with presentations at 4:15 and 5 p.m.

The free event will take place in the Advocate Outpatient Center at 13900 Quality Drive, Huntley, IL 60142.

Advocate Medical Group general surgeons Chirag Dholakia, MD, and Nicholas Kunio, MD, will conduct the free screenings and present on the common, but often misunderstood, condition. They'll talk about common signs and symptoms and the importance of early detection.

Participants can also come "test drive" the latest da Vinci robot which is used for surgical procedures.

Light refreshments will also be served and an animal therapy dog will be around to visit with attendees.

If you are experiencing any of the following symptoms, a screening is recommended:

• Swelling in the abdomen, pelvis or groin area

• A bulge or pain in those areas

• Pain when bending over, coughing or lifting objects

Registration is recommended for the free screenings to book a timeslot in advance.
