Downers Grove Choral Society to host 'Women of Note' concert

The Downers Grove Choral Society, under the direction of artistic director John Patrick Rakes, continues its exciting 59th season on Sunday, April 29.

"Women of Note" will feature world premieres of Naperville composer Paul Scherer's music "Woman of Valor," "Femme Noire" and "Mother Nature."

This concert, with professional orchestra, also will include Amy Beach and Hildegard von Bingen.

Soloists are soprano Rosalind Lee, mezzo-soprano Denise Gamez, tenor Tom Heuber and bass David Govertsen.

There will be a preconcert discussion at 3:15 p.m., followed by the 4 p.m. concert.

All 2017-18 season concerts will be presented at First United Methodist Church, 1032 Maple Ave. in Downers Grove.
