Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra announces 2021-22 season

Well-loved masterpieces, favorites from musical theater, and dazzling performances by instrumental soloists and the Apollo Chorus of Chicago await you in the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra's highly-anticipated 2021-22 season of music-making.

Under the baton of Music Director and Conductor Stephen Alltop, concert programs will offer music sure to please a wide range of musical tastes, and special events throughout the season will infuse the concert experience with a celebratory flavor. The Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra's home at Elmhurst Christian Reformed Church offers a spectacular contemporary space in which to enjoy not-to-be-missed performances with family and friends.

You will want to be at each concert to appreciate all the season offers, beginning in September with a program of well-loved musical theater favorites, selections from "Star Wars Suite" by John Williams, and Gershwin's Variations on "I Got Rhythm." The season opener will be at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 18.

Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 in B-flat minor (Mvt. 1), Ravel's "Bolero," and Respighi's "The Pines of Rome" are showcased in the next concert at 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 13.

The new year will open with the music of Handel, J.S. Bach, Vivaldi and Telemann displaying the amazing talents of the Elmhurst Symphony woodwinds and brass at 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 23.

Bach's "St. John Passion" will be performed by the acclaimed Apollo Chorus of Chicago at 7 p.m. Saturday, March 12.

The season comes to a rousing conclusion in May with a concert starring percussionist She-e Wu in a breathtaking performance of Higdon's Festive Overture and the Elmhurst Symphony playing music of Shostakovich and Rachmaninoff. The final concert of the season will begin at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 7.

In this season of stellar musical experiences, the symphony will offer five different concerts; patrons can choose packages of three to five concerts for any dates. Special discount subscriptions ranging in cost from $90 to $130 are available through Sept. 1.

Those who become Elmhurst Symphony members by subscribing also will receive substantial discounts on additional single ticket purchases, free exchange of ticket dates for most concerts, and invitations to subscriber-only events.
