Sept. 17-18: Auditions for CLC fall production of 'A Doll's House'

Actors age 18 and above are invited to audition for the College of Lake County's fall production of "A Doll's House." Auditions start at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 17 and Tuesday, Sept. 18 in the Studio Theatre, James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts, Grayslake Campus.

Those auditioning should prepare one 60-90 second, memorized, serious monologue from a modern, 19th century contemporary or dramatic play. Also needed are several children ages 5-10. No preparation is necessary for the children.

Wear comfortable clothes that allow you to move easily. You need only attend Monday or Tuesday auditions, not both. Please bring an acting resume if you have one and also a photo (candid one is acceptable). Callbacks take place Thursday, Sept. 20 from 6:30-10 p.m.

Rehearsals begin the week of Oct. 1 and are held Monday through Thursday evenings, with a possible, occasional weekend rehearsal depending on availability of actors and necessity. You must be available for all rehearsals from Oct. 1 through the performances. Showtimes are: Friday, Nov. 9 and Saturday, Nov. 10 at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, Nov. 11 at 2 p.m.; and Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Nov. 15-17 at 7:30 p.m. Please make sure you have the times free before auditioning.

A groundbreaking masterwork by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen, "A Doll's House" is the story of Nora Helmer, a young wife and mother married to Torvald, a recently promoted bank manager. The pair seem to have an idyllic life until a terrible secret from Nora's past threatens to shatter her world and she begins to question everything. When it first premiered, "A Doll's House" sent shockwaves throughout Europe and, 150 years later, it continues to be as bold, brilliant and alive as ever.

The show is being directed by Alicia Hall and Craig Rich. For audition information, contact Hall at ahall1@clcillinois.edu or Rich at crich@clcillinois.edu. To stay current on CLC Theatre, visit the department's Facebook page.
