Endorsements: Oilschlager, Drummond for College of Lake County board

The candidates in the five-way race for two College of Lake County board of trustees seats all have deep ties to CLC. Barbara Oilschlager is a 24-year board veteran, and she’s joined on the ballot by fellow incumbent John Lumber, former board member Philip Carrigan, retired CLC Vice President for Student Development Darl Drummond and CLC alum Jeanne Marie Dauray. We have supported Oilschlager in the past and continue to do so. She provides an experienced voice, keeps a watchful eye on the bottom line and is committed to controlling tuition costs. Lumber, on the other hand, just cast the lone vote for a tuition hike and anticipates asking voters at some point for a tax increase, a discussion that seems premature. Of the remaining candidates, we see Drummond as a potentially strong addition to the board. She aims to keep tuition as reasonable as possible and expresses a cautious approach to expanding green initiatives. We endorse Drummond and Oilschlager.
