Libertyville wins at VH; C-G tops at Elk Grove

Libertyville's Alex Snarski and Justin Fu each won an individual race and had legs on two winning relays as the Wildcats took top honors in the Cougars College Events meet hosted by Vernon Hills on Saturday.

Snarski won the 200-yard backstroke in 2:00.05 and had the leadoff legs of the 400 medley and 400 freestyle relays as Libertyville (138) topped Buffalo Grove (100) and Glenbrook North (92) in the team race. Joining Snarski on the winning relays was Fu, who also won the 50 free (22.63).

Libertyville's Atticus Rush won the 400 IM (4:36.63) and had legs on the 400 medley and runner-up 800 free relays.

Buffalo Grove's Matt Schulstad won the 200 breastroke (2:20.50), and the Bison had the runner-up finish in the 400 medley relay with KC Lotzer, Schulstad, Brandon Hausfeld and Nick Poirier.

Vernon Hills' Alex Zuniga was a runaway winner in diving at 337.05.

at Elk Grove: Cary-Grove's depth in a flighted meet hosted by the Grenadiers was evident as the Trojans won with 684 points, ahead of Highland Park (592), Zion-Benton (520), Hoffman Estates (515) and the host Grenadiers (508).

In the most competitive heats, Cary-Grove had double winners in Michael Hamann (200 IM, 100 fly)), Tyler King (50 free, 100 free), and the Trojans won each of the relays.

Hoffman Estates got winning efforts from Nick Jessee (200 free, 1:48.26) and Sang Han (100 breaststroke, 1:00.33).

Elk Grove's Joseph Kraemer won diving (285.95), Krystian Szczepaniak placed third in the 500 free (5:28.20) and Bart Kosciarz (100 breast) and Colin Williams (100 fly) each earned fourth-place finishes.

St. Francis finished seventh and had a pair of second-place finishes from Michael Barrowclift, in the 50 free (22.92) and the 100 back (57.17).
