COD Youth Education offers variety of summer programming

Youth Education at College of DuPage is offer its popular summer programming – including Summer Explorer Day Camps, Teen X-treme and Talent Search – beginning on Monday, June 11, at a variety of sites in DuPage County.

Summer Explorer Day Camps: Recreation and art are combined with academic enrichment in these weekly camps for grades 1 to 6. Topics include Fun and Fitness, Animal Safari and Summer Olympics. Camps are offered from 8:30 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. Mondays to Fridays at Parkview Elementary School in Glen Ellyn (June 11 to July 27) and College of DuPage (July 30 to Aug. 10).

Friday Field Trips: Take a journey to the SciTech Museum, Morton Arboretum, Brookfield Zoo or on a fossil dig. Trips are offered for grades 1 to 6 and depart from/return to Parkview Elementary School on June 22, July 6, July 20 and Aug. 17.

Counselor Training Program and Leadership Training

Program: Students age 13 to 15 work closely with the summer day campers to organize and lead age-appropriate activities while working under the supervision of a camp aide (Counselor Training) or develop decision making, problem-solving and conflict resolution skills (Leadership Training).

Sessions run Mondays to Thursdays in two-week intervals June 18 to Aug. 9 at Parkview Elementary School, College of DuPage and Naperville Yellow Box, 1635 Emerson Lane.

Teen X-treme: Students in grades 7 to 9 can experience everything from game design to guitar odyssey. Classes meet for one week Mondays to Thursdays from June 18 to Aug. 9 at College of DuPage.

Enrichment Program: Classes improve academic and language skills, develop an appreciation for art and provide opportunities to explore technology. For students in grades 1 to 8, classes run weekly in the mornings and afternoons on Mondays to Thursdays at Parkview Elementary School, College of DuPage, Naperville Yellow Box (Mondays to Fridays) and Bryan Middle School in Elmhurst. Early and late supervision is available for students staying the entire day at all locations.

Talent Search: Courses provide challenging academic experiences for gifted students in grades 3 to 12. Classes are offered at Parkview Elementary School, Naperville Yellow Box, Glen Crest Junior High School in Glen Ellyn and College of DuPage.

Summer College Credit: Juniors and seniors in good academic standing can take a variety of classes to earn college credit at Glen Crest Middle School in Glen Ellyn, Neuqua Valley High School in Naperville and Lake Park East High School in Roselle.

High School Credit: Courses in math, language arts, foreign languages, science, social studies and business/consumer education will be offered for high school credit at the following schools: Glen Crest Middle School, Neuqua Valley High School, Waubonsie Valley High School in Aurora, Metea Valley High School in Aurora and Naperville Yellow Box.
