New Besties Forever at Sedgebrook in Lincolnshire

They expected beautiful apartments, great food, and fabulous amenities...all of which they received. What surprised them, was that they made new BFF's (best friends forever). Beverly Goodman (91) and Elvie DeHaven (92), met each other in their new homes at Sedgebrook in Lincolnshire, and have become almost inseparable since.

Goodman moved to Sedgebrook a year ago. "I was getting older and there were fewer and fewer friends where I was living," she said. She first had a 10,000 square foot home, before moving into a 3000 square foot apartment after her husband died. "Here at Sedgebrook, I have a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment. It's 1600 square feet and it's beautiful and warm and comfortable. I was able to take my favorite things with me," Goodman said.

DeHaven moved to Sedgebrook shortly before Beverly. "I had lived in Amour Woods in Lake Bluff. It's a community of empty nesters and people who are downsizing. I was lonely there. It was too lonely for me," she said. "I have macular degeneration so wasn't able to drive anymore. My daughter thought it would be a good idea to move. I looked at a few places, but liked Sedgebrook the most. Without selling my home or anything, I just moved. Sedgebrook make it very easy. My goodness. They take care of everything."

Goodman's sister-in-law, who also lives at Sedgebrook, introduced the two ladies. They connected immediately.

"After awhile, people thought we were twins. We look alike and people assume we're sisters," said Goodman. "We even tend to dress the same."

"We don't dress similarly on purpose. It just happens," said DeHaven. "I'm sort of amused when I find her in the same color scheme."

Agreeing that their tastes are similar Goodman added that their personalities are very much the same as well. "We have a lot in common. Neither of us pushes ourselves on people or anything like that. But we're far from shy." Many afternoons, the ladies can be found holding court outside of the Harvest Bistro, visiting with their neighbors.

Recently the two were part of a panel of residents talking to prospects at a marketing event. "I told people that living here takes the stress out of your life. You don't have to keep house or cook or anything. Everything is taken care of here. If there's a problem, they solve it. There's not anything I can think of that I don't like about it here. I have no complaints. None," said DeHaven

Goodman, who said that by nature she's more of a complainer, agreed. ""Everything is fun, it's enjoyable. I have no regrets at all. I like the people and the way that things are around here," she said.

Both ladies reminisced that it had been many years since they'd had a best friend. "We're happy to have found each other," said Goodman.
