AAUW Bake and Book Sale: 7 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, July 25, Deerfield Farmer's Market, Northwest corner of Deerfield Road and Robert York Avenue, Deerfield. The Deerfield Area Branch of the American Association of University Women will sell books and baked goods to support scholarships for designated female graduating seniors at Deerfield, Highland Park and Stevenson High Schools. Maxxsonics Car Audio Showdown: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26, 1290 Ensell Road, Lake Zurich. A two-day dB Drag event (in which the goal is to have the car with the loudest sound inside the vehicle). Event will include food vendors, raffle prizes, giveaways and factory-direct sale with car and home audio products. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to a breast cancer charity. St. Bede Knights of Columbus Fundraiser: All-day event starting with a car show at 9 a.m., Saturday, July 25, St. Bede Church, Rt. 59 and Wilson Road, Ingleside. Raptors for Photographers: 8:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, July 25, Stillman Nature Center, 33 W. Penny Road, South Barrington. Drop in program to allow photographers to get an unimpeded close-up of great horned, barn, and screech owls plus a peregrine falcon and broad-winged hawk. The birds will be brought out in the favorable morning light (all the birds won't be available at the same moment). Not for those who can't distinguish between a phone and a camera. $5 per person. Great Cardboard Boat Regatta: Check in at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, Jones Island Beach, corner of Harvey Street and Alleghany Road, Grayslake. Build a human-powered boat from corrugated cardboard to complete three heats around a 200-yard course. Prizes for different categories and classes of boat. Registration required; $25; $20 for ages 14 and under; $30 to compete in the "Instant Boats" race with boats built on-site.
