Eat and drink pink to support breast cancer awareness at these suburban restaurants

It’s hard to find someone whose life hasn’t been touched by breast cancer.

One in every eight women in the United States will be diagnosed with the disease in their lifetime, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and restaurants around the suburbs are offering specials to raise money for research, education, awareness and support for those battling breast cancer.

Antico Posto in Oak Brook will donate $1 from the sale of each order of oven-roasted chicken meatballs ($14.95) to Chicago’s In Good Taste, part of the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation.

Beatrix in Oak Brook has baked up pink ribbon sugar cookies, with $1 from each purchase benefiting Chicago’s In Good Taste. Additionally, $1 from each Pink On the River (Raspberry Crumble) Cookie sold will be donated to The Pink Agenda.

Guests dining at City Works Eatery and Pour House in Schaumburg and Vernon Hills can support the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation throughout October by rounding up their checks to the nearest dollar, with all funds donated to the foundation to support breast cancer research.

Throughout October Gibson’s Bar and Steakhouse locations in Oak Brook and Rosemont and Hugo's Frog Bar & Fish House in Des Plaines and Naperville will offer Cosmos for the Cure, where they’ll donate a portion of proceeds from the sale of all cosmos sold this month to the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation.

Throughout October, Kona Grill team members in Oak Brook are wearing pink neckties, pink T-shirts and breast cancer awareness pins to show their support for everyone affected by breast cancer. All guest checks will include an option to add a donation to the American Cancer Society.

L. Woods Tap & Pine Lodge in Lincolnwood is serving up an apple cranberry cobbler, with $1 from each one ordered going to Chicago’s In Good Taste.

Lucille Restaurant at Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace will host pink afternoon tea from noon to 3 p.m. Saturdays through Oct. 24. It’s $65 for adults and $30 for kids younger than 12. For each guest attending, Drury Lane will donate $10 to Wellness House, supporting cancer patients and their families in our community. Tea towers will be adorned with pink pastries, scones and seasonal savories and served with rose-infused tea blends, berry teas and sparkling rosé. Throughout the afternoon survivors will be celebrated and loved ones remembered, and guests are invited to write a message of hope on rose-tinted cards that will be delivered to The Wellness House.

Morton’s The Steakhouse locations in Naperville, Northbrook, Rosemont and Schaumburg will donate $1 from each drink sold from their Pink Ribbon Collection throughout October to the National Breast Cancer Foundation to help fund life-saving programs and support for those affected. The Pink Ribbon is a sweet and tangy cocktail featuring Blood X Sweat X Tears Vodka, Grand Marnier, prickly pear, pineapple and lime. The alcohol-free version features Fever-Tree sparkling grapefruit, prickly pear, pineapple and lime.

Roka Akor in Oak Brook is supporting Editha House, which provides affordable lodging for adult cancer patients and their caregivers traveling for medical treatment. When you drink pink, specifically the JCB No. 69 Brut Rosé, they’ll donate $5 per glass or $20 per bottle to Editha House. Or you can order the hamachi serrano maki roll, $3 of which will go to the charity.

This October, every time you order a mai tai at any Rookie’s Pub or Village Squire location, they’ll donate $1 to the Northwestern Medicine Gavers Breast Center to support breast health and the patients and families for whom they care. Plus the mai tail will come in a special pink cup that’s yours to keep. There are Rookie’s locations in Crystal Lake, Elgin, Geneva, Hoffman Estates, Huntley, Roselle and St. Charles. You can find Village Squire in Campton Hills, Crystal Lake, McHenry, South Elgin, West Dundee and Woodstock.

Stan’s Donuts & Coffee will donate 25 cents from every strawberry glazed doughnut sold to the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation. Customers also will have the option to round up their purchases in-store and online to further support the fight against breast cancer.

Violi in Oak Brook is participating in Chicago’s In Good Taste and will donate $1 from each order of cheese saganaki to the Lynn Sage Breast Cancer Foundation.

And finally, if you’re up for a trip to downtown Chicago, the American Cancer Society’s Taste of Hope brings together award-winning chefs from over 40 Chicago-area restaurants, each offering a tasting station with food and drinks. Now in its 13th year, the event is Nov. 5 at the Aon Grand Ballroom at Navy Pier. Regular tickets are $200.
