Members of local Cub Scout Pack 3815 and their families spent Sunday, Nov. 3 planting trees at Volo Bog State Natural Area in Ingleside. Donated by the Illinois Conservation Foundation, the oak trees planted will be part of an oak savanna and woodland restoration effort.

MCC is the only community college in Illinois that has experienced consecutive and significant enrollment growth over the last three years. A 55-foot blue spruce from Elgin, donated by the family of Gene Nelson of Elgin, will be Chicago's 106th Christmas tree. The Nelsons' tree was selected from more than 40 submissions received by the Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events. Nelson and his family will join Santa Claus and other guests to light the tree at the 106th Annual Christmas tree Lighting Ceremony on Nov. 22 in Millennium Park at Washington Street and Michigan Avenue. The free event begins at 6 p.m. and the tree will be lit at approximately 6:30 p.m.

The Geneva Chamber of Commerce recognized Geneva History Center Executive Director Terry Emma with the 2019 Wood Community Service Award Thursday night at Eaglebrook Country Club in Geneva. Emma's enthusiasm and volunteerism were highlighted as Emma received the award at a Thursday night dinner. According to the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, The Wood Community Service award is presented each year by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce at the Geneva Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner to an individual who has made significant community contributions in the areas of business, education, youth involvement, civic organizations, art, recreation, charity or government. The award is named in honor of Bill and Elise Wood, and Nell and Burton Wood-four individuals who have all contributed to the growth and health of the city of Geneva.
