CLC fall production a journey of adventure, loss

The College of Lake County Theatre Department will present the high-octane, dramatic comedy "She Kills Monsters" at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Nov. 8 and 9, and Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 14-16, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 10.

Performances take place in the Studio Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts on CLC's Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

Written by Qui Nguyen, "She Kills Monsters" is the story of Agnes, who leaves her childhood home in Ohio following the death of her teenage sister, Tilly. When Agnes finds Tilly's "Dungeons & Dragons" notebook, she stumbles into a journey of discovery and action-packed adventure in the imaginary world that was Tilly's refuge.

The comedy is an engaging mix of homicidal fairies, nasty ogres and '90s pop culture, and it offers a heart-pounding homage to the geek and warrior within everyone.

"In 'She Kills Monsters,' a young woman is drawn into the fantasy realm of 'Dungeons & Dragons' by the memory of her lost younger sister," said Brian Gill, adjunct CLC theater instructor and the show's director.

"Set against the backdrop of sword battles, evil cheerleaders, slacker demons and a five-headed dragon, this fast-paced and clever show is about living with loss, finding your own family and being true to yourself."

The performance, which contains some strong language and mild adult themes, is recommended for ages 13 and older.

Tickets are available in person at the Box Office, by phone at of (847) 543-2300 or online at www.clcillinois.edu/tickets, which also has pricing and discount information.
