CLC student literary magazine wins first place award for third straight year; three contributors win individual awards
The 2018 edition of Prairie Voices, the College of Lake County's literary arts magazine, has won first place for Best Overall Magazine (central division) in the Community College Humanities Association Annual Literary Magazine Contest. CLC's magazine also won first place in 2017, 2016 and 2014.
In addition, three CLC students' work received awards. Artwork: Val Brandner (Beach Park) won second place. Poetry: Makada Hunt (Waukegan) won second place. Photography: Ronald Ballok (Waukegan) won third place.
"It is a particular honor to win the first place award four out of the past five years," said Nicholas Schevera, Ph.D., Prairie Voices editor and professor of English and humanities. "It speaks to the strengths of the college's academics. For many students, this is their first time being published and their faculty mentors are extremely excited for them. This publication is a joint effort by many people, including the 29 writers and 20 artists who contributed poetry, prose and artwork; the faculty; Elaine Lazarus, graphic designer in Public Relations and Marketing; and Bob Lossmann, art editor."
