College of DuPage offers free Citizens Public Safety Academy this summer

The Homeland Security Training Institute at College of DuPage is offering the Citizens Public Safety Academy, a free program designed to provide participants the opportunity to become more aware of and involved with their own safety.

Classes will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays, June 7 to Aug. 2, in the SSG Robert J. Miller Homeland Security Education Center on the College's Glen Ellyn campus, 425 Fawell Blvd.

Funded by a grant from the Motorola Solutions Foundation, the program highlights a broad range of topics presented by law enforcement and emergency response experts from a variety of organizations. Participants also will get a glimpse of how different public safety agencies work together and take part in off-site tours, presentations and a variety of interactive activities.

While this program is free and open to the public, registration is required. Enrollment is limited to 30 participants age 18 or older and a background check is required.

The deadline to register is Friday, May 25.
