CLC hosts viewing of 'Screenagers' documentary exploring the effects of teenage internet, video game use

"Screenagers," a free documentary exploring the effects of heavy internet and video game use by American teenagers, will be shown at the College of Lake County Thursday, April 27 from 1-3 p.m. in the Room A011 Auditorium at CLC's Grayslake Campus, 19351 W. Washington St.

The 2016 documentary includes insights from authors, psychologists and brain scientists, revealing how the amount of exposure to the internet and video games impacts youth development. The film also offers solutions on how adults can empower youth and young adults to best navigate the digital world and find balance between it and the non-digital world.

The creator of the film is Dr. Delaney Ruston, a suburban New York City-based physician, filmmaker and parent of a teenage son and daughter. While working on "Screenagers," Ruston learned of research, including a 2015 study by Common Sense Media, indicating that the average American teen spends more than 6.5 hours per day looking at screens.

"Screenagers" takes a personal approach as Rushton probes into the vulnerable corners of family life, including her own, to explore struggles over social media, video games, academics and internet addiction.

The screening is sponsored by CLC's Student Government Association. For more information on "Screenagers," visit www.screenagersmovie.com.
