Da Vinci Waldorf students stock Wauconda Food Pantry

All the Da Vinci Waldorf School 1st to 8th grade students will walk from the school to the Wauconda Food Pantry every Monday during the month of September, laden with donations. The children are offering up their Monday lunch recess time to help stock the food pantry during Michaelmas season.

With the middle school students holding the first graders' hands, the children and their teachers carry donations from the school at 150 Bonner Road to the food pantry. “Service learning is something that we really focus on in the middle school years,” said Da Vinci Waldorf School first grade teacher Kathy Matlin. “This year, we decided to also give the younger students the experience of community service.”

Michaelmas Day is September 29, and Da Vinci Waldorf School will celebrate the Michaelmas Fall Festival, a festival of service and courage, on Saturday, October 5. At the festival the children can experience inner strength and courage through play as they participate in challenge games like obstacle courses. The public is welcome at the Michaelmas Fall Festival, which will also include pony rides, live music, homemade soup and bread, and storytelling.

Da Vinci Waldorf School is a non-sectarian school serving children of Lake, McHenry, and northern Cook counties in preschool through 8th grade. The school offers a classical academic curriculum richly integrated with the arts and practical life experiences. For more information, visit the website at www.DaVinciWaldorfSchool.org
