Laps With the Chaps Sunset 5K run/walk set for Oct. 20
College of DuPage will host its second annual Laps With the Chaps 5K Run/Walk on Saturday, Oct. 20, at 4:30 p.m. All net proceeds from the Sunset 5K will benefit COD student scholarships.
“This is a great event for serious runners, walkers and individuals who just want to enjoy the day with their family and friends,” said Ami Chambers, COD Community Relations coordinator and Laps With the Chaps Sunset co-director. “Last year's inaugural 5K was a huge success, with more than 280 registered participants. We are expecting even more people this year.”
Participants can register individually or as a team. Medals will be given to the top three male and female runners in each of the age groups, and the overall top male and female runners will receive a free pair of running shoes from Run Today in downtown Glen Ellyn. Prizes will also be awarded for teams that offer the best representation of “COD pride.”
Race day activities will include kid races, a moon jumper, pre/post injury screening and stretching, and refreshments from Laps with the Chaps sponsor Skuddlebutts. Door prizes include a free tablet PC and a Keurig coffee maker. All participants will receive a T-shirt and a gift bag with discounts and coupons from area businesses.
In addition, real-time race results will be posted immediately on flat screen TVs, and may be texted to runners as an option. This year, participants may opt to be timed or untimed.
Run Today is offering a 10-week training course starting Wednesday, Aug. 15, to help runners prepare for the 5K. For more information, call (630) 942-0800.
Registration for Laps With the Chaps Sunset 5K is now open for $30 until Wednesday, Oct. 17, at 3 p.m., or on race day for $40. A $5 discount is available for current COD students, Laps With the Chaps team members, CARA members and Chamber of Commerce members.
“Due to the popularity of this event, registration is capped at 500 participants,” Chambers said. “Because of this, we're encouraging people to register now to ensure a space in this year's race.”
Packets may be picked up on COD's main campus in the Student Services Center on Thursday, Oct. 18, from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., or at Run Today in downtown Glen Ellyn on Friday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
