Endowment for Needy Senior and Child

The Bloomingdale Women's Club has given $9500 to the Humanitarian Service Project (HSP) to provide for the needy senior citizens and children served by the charity. The funds were raised through the club's 37th annual fashion show which was held late last month. The show, which is the club's largest annual fundraiser to assist community groups, featured fashions from Carson Pirie Scott, Sassy's Originals, Bella Bianca Coture, and York Furrier Coats. The endowments funded through the Bloomingdale Women's Club donation will go towards permanently funding a spot for a needy senior and child in HSP's Senior Citizen and Children's Birthday Projects.

The Bloomingdale Women's Club is a philanthropic organization commited to providing an avenue for women to support and improve the community. They support numerous local intiatives, and have been partnered with HSP for over two decades. They meet at 7:30 pm on the second Thursday each month at the Bloomingdale Firehouse.

Karole Kettering, executive director and co-founder of HSP, said "HSP was honored to be chosen as a recipient of the money raised by the Bloomingdale Women's Club's Fashion Show. The club has been such a valued ally of HSP with the shared mission to alleviate the pain and suffering poverty brings to children and the elderly of our community. With this wonderful donation they have managed to make a permanent impact in the lives of the needy."

The 120 impoverished seniors in HSP's Senior Citizen Project receive monthly deliveries of 90 lbs. of groceries that include a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, frozen meats, non-perishable foods, personal care items and paper products. The Children's Birthday Project provides needy children ages 3-11 with a 20-25 lb. box containing books, toys, games, and a Party-in-a-Box filled with all the items necessary to have a birthday party. In addition, children in the program receive school supplies, Christmas gifts, and are eligible for the Feed the Kids program which provides food, with an estimated $1155, for needy families during the summer months of June, July, and August.

About The Humanitarian Service Project

HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane Counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,600 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 900 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
