Cancer Care

• General Cancer Support Group: Open to all patients, whether newly diagnosed or experiencing recurrence. Facilitated by oncology nurse navigator.

Diabetes Care

Diabetes Education at Advocate Condell Medical Center is generously sponsored by The Wealshire and The Ponds.

• Individual Diabetes Education: Schedule a one-on-one appointment with certified diabetes nurse educator. Type 1, Type 2 or gestational diabetes education and problem-solving. Glucose meter instruction and instruction in starting insulin. Appointments are 45 minutes to 1 hour. A physician referral is required. Most insurance plans cover diabetes education. Patients should check with insurance company about coverage.

• Type 2 Diabetes Self-Management Class: For those recently diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, or those previously diagnosed and struggling to get their blood sugar under control. The three-session class teaches the skills you need to manage your diabetes. A physician referral is required. Most insurance plans cover diabetes education. Patients should check with insurance company about coverage.

• Type 2 Diabetes Meal Planning/Carb Counting Refresher Class: Geared toward those who have completed the Diabetes Self-Management Classes or have attended diabetes education classes elsewhere. This class is recommended each year for ongoing diabetes self-management, education and support. A physician referral is required. Most insurance plans cover diabetes education. Patient should check with insurance company about coverage.

• Look What We Can Do!: Designed for parents and their infants from newborn through one year, this class discusses a different topic of interest to new parents each week. Learn creative and stimulating ways to play with your baby and connect and share advice.

• Prepared Childbirth: A common-sense, thorough approach to relaxed childbirth, preparing the expectant mother and her coach for labor, vaginal and C-section delivery, newborn characteristics and the postpartum period. • Teen Parent Childbirth Education Class: Recognizing the importance of helping expectant teens feel comfortable with the experience of childbirth, our New Life Center offers a prepared childbirth class especially for the teen mom to be and her support person. Participants will learn to identify normal anatomical and physiological changes related to pregnancy, review the labor process and learn about newborns. It is recommended that participants attend this class two months prior to their due date.

• Online Childbirth Education Class: Can't come to childbirth class? We will bring it to you! While nothing can replace the personal connection of an on-site childbirth class, the online class is the perfect alternative for busy parents needing a flexible schedule, or moms on bed rest. This 8-chapter program is an interactive, web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities and games to teach all the essential information expectant parents need before the birth of their baby.

• Sibling Class: For youngsters anticipating the arrival of a new baby. Intended for children 3 – 10 years old, this special class will ease the transition to “Big Brother” or “Big Sister.” A parent must attend the class with the child. Please have child bring a doll or stuffed animal to class.

• Safe Sitter Class: Safe Sitter is a medically accurate program that teaches 11- 13-year-old girls and boys to handle emergencies when caring for children. This class teaches safe and nurturing child care techniques, behavior management skills and appropriate responses to medical emergencies. Please bring a sack lunch.
