COD welcomes 12 international students to campus this summer

College of DuPage has been selected to host 12 international students this summer through the Community College Initiative Program (CCIP) and currently is seeking local host families to help welcome the students to the area.

CCIP brings students from underrepresented countries to community colleges to develop leadership and professional skills as well as English language proficiency.

Four women and eight men from Brazil, Egypt, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Kenya, Pakistan and South Africa will arrive between mid-June and mid-August and will attend COD for the 2012-2013 academic year. These students, ranging in age from 19 to 31, will participate in community service, internships and cultural enrichment activities, and will live in apartments local to the College.

To help students acclimate to U.S. culture and the local community, the College is seeking host families to pick students up at the airport and host in their home for three to five days. Host families also are asked to commit to one or two days of contact with their student each month, which may include a home-cooked meal, a local outing or an invitation to a holiday celebration.

For more information on becoming a host family, call COD Program Coordinator for CCIP Sue Kerby at (630) 942-3078, or email kerbys@cod.edu.
