First Nursing Practice and Education Symposium May 4

College of DuPage will host its first-ever Nursing Practice and Education Symposium from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 4, in the Student Resource Center, Room 2800.

Presented by the Nursing Department and Continuing Education, the symposium will bring together nursing professionals to discuss current projects, practices and pilot programs and how they impact nursing, education and the patient.

“Health care practices of the future require deeper and more robust collaboration between practitioners and educators today,” said Vickie Gukenberger, associate dean of Nursing and Health Sciences at College of DuPage. “Through this partnership, we can meet the needs of the patients we care for and continue toward advancement of the nursing profession.”

The event's keynote speaker is Carol F. Dunham, clinical assistant professor and Skills Lab director at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dunham has developed many simulation experiences for undergraduate students, nurse practitioner students, practicing RNs, LPNs and nursing assistants. She will present “Using Simulation to Teach and Learn QSEN Competencies.”

Other session topics include education and practice partnerships to adopt Institute of Medicine recommendations, implications of the National Database for Nursing Quality indicators, and the NCSBN Transition to Practice initiative, including its implications for education and practice.

Registration is $129 per person ($110 by April 6) and includes lunch and materials. Contact hours are available. For more information, call (630) 942-2208 or visit www.cod.edu/academics/conted.
