Lombard Public Works asst. director leads DuPage Water Conservation Workgroup

LOMBARD, Illinois— Conservation and preservation of local resources falls naturally on the forefront of Lombard's Assistant Public Works Director Dave Gorman's mind. He is a champion for the efforts of the DuPage River Salt Creek Workgroup (DRSCW) and was recently voted in as president of this organization.

The DRSCW's mission is to preserve and enhance water quality and stream resource quality in the East Branch DuPage River, West Branch DuPage River, Salt Creek and their tributaries. The locally based effort collects vital data, identifies the issues and stressors of the watersheds and proposes management solutions to meet water quality standards.

Gorman explained that the members of the DRSCW are some of the best in their field. “We're unique in the breadth and depth of our membership, which includes nearly every municipality and wastewater treatment authority in the 371 square miles of these watersheds, as well as more than a dozen professional firms and interest groups,” said Gorman. “Ours is the only venue that I know of where all stakeholders comprehensively and cooperatively work to meet the goals of the Clean Water Act,” added Gorman.

Collectively this organization makes more progress than individual efforts. They save costs by sharing resources to comply with the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) permit requirements. “I'm proud to assume the presidency of the DuPage River Salt Creek Workgroup during such a dynamic time in water resources management,” expressed Gorman.
