Monthly Meals Needed for Impoverished Seniors
Many seniors in the community face hardship, including economic and social difficulties. The Humanitarian Service Project seeks to relieve needy seniors' burdens by providing a hot meal and company.
One of the facets of HSP's Senior Citizen Project is the “Monthly Meal” program. Seniors are paired with someone from the community who will provide a meal to the senior each month. Meals are homemade, bought from a restaurant, or donated by restaurants.
HSP currently needs more volunteers to pair with all of their seniors. Being a Monthly Meal volunteer is an easy way to help the needy seniors in the community. Meals may be delivered either on a holiday or any other time during the month.
The 120 impoverished seniors in HSP's Senior Citizen Project receive monthly deliveries of 90 lbs. of groceries, which also include personal care items and paper products. The seniors also receive a monthly “Secret Pal” gift, a Meal of the Month provided by an HSP volunteer, gifts at Christmas time, and much needed household items on their “wishlist.”

About The Humanitarian Service Project
HSP's mission is to alleviate the pain and suffering that poverty creates in seniors and children living in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois. Last year during the Christmas Offering, 1,616 children received gifts and 100 impoverished families received three weeks of groceries, frozen meats, and fresh produce. With the Senior Citizen Project, HSP provides a monthly food delivery and secret pal gifts to 120 low-income seniors. The Children's Birthday Project reaches the youngest underprivileged, making birthdays and Christmas truly memorable occasions for 865 children. Feed the Kids provides low-income families with groceries and fresh produce. HSP conducts an annual school supplies drive, which sends supplies to the DuPage Back to School Fair in addition to furnishing schools and individual children with necessary supplies.
