Advocate Condell Medical Center Nurses Welcome Legislators

Nurses from Advocate Condell Medical Center invited legislators from Lake County to a panel discussion at their third annual Legislative Forum on Monday, Oct. 3.

Senators Terry Link (D-30) and Dan Duffy (R-26) attended.

"This is an opportunity to invite our legislators here to Condell. Every year our nurses travel to Springfield to advocate on behalf of our patients and our profession. Now, we welcome senators Link and Duffy here,” said Vice President of Nursing Mary Hillard, RN, MSN. “This forum provides an excellent opportunity for our nurses and our representatives to get to know one another."

About 30 nurses attended the forum, and all were encouraged by Duffy and Link to maintain contact through emails, phone calls and other community visits.

“Some of the most effective legislation starts with ideas from people like you,” Link said.

Topics from the event included the recent decision to revoke tax-exempt status from three Illinois hospitals; Medicaid and Medicare funding; nursing shortages and education; Illinois' budget crisis; and mental health funding.
