Metea Valley sweeps South Elgin

Metea Valley 3-10, South Elgin 1-2:The Mustangs (13-12, 9-12) swept in the Upstate Eight Conference Valley Division behind strong pitching efforts from Game 1 winner Clayton Gonzalez and Game 2 winner Max Custer. Jake Charuk drove in 2 runs in the opener while Mike Fitzgerald and Ryan Solomon did the same in Game 2. Kenny Obendorf had 3 RBI in the second game.Willowbrook 2-7, Addison Trail 1-6:After Dan Johnson pitched a 4-hitter in the opener, Dom Battaglia earned the Warriors (15-11, 10-7 West Suburban Gold) a sweep when his single in the top of the eighth drove in the winning run in Game 2. Willowbrook scored 3 runs in the top of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.St. Francis 2, Montini 1:Eric Stout (7-2) struck out 11 and walked two in a 3-hitter for the Spartans (19-8, 10-5) in their Suburban Christian Conference Blue Division win. Stout also blasted a first-inning homer.Lake Park 3-8, Buffalo Grove 2-4:Sophomore Mark Pall (2-0) retired the final 19 batters he faced in a 1-hitter in the first game for Lake Park (18-11). Zach Tsiodras smacked a 2-run single in the bottom of the seventh to win the game. Jake Pygman had 4 hits on the day, while John Schram had 3 RBI in the second game. Cody Dailey (1-0) was the complete-game winning pitcher.Wheaton Academy 13, Chicago U-High 3:The Warriors (20-8), co-champions of the Suburban Christian Conference Gold Division, broke open the nonconference game by scoring 9 runs in the bottom of the third. Tate Fritz homered and drove in 3 runs. David Sapyta also had 3 RBI. Derek Enger and Gerald Budzisz combined on the mound with 3 innings apiece.Benet 10, St. Joseph 3:Trailing 3-1 heading to the fifth inning, Benet (13-15) exploded for 9 runs in the final three innings. Sam Santa Maria, Chris Stout and Kevin Jendra had 2 hits apiece. Glenbard South 12, Romeoville 9:Zach Bava went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI for the Raiders (17-9) in their nonconference win. Ryan Schlegel, Ethan Gasbarro, Aaron Beese, Ben Gaspar and winning pitcher Roger Dyrda had 2 hits apiece.York 10-8, Proviso West 0-5:Mike Trumbull went 3-for-3 in the opener and Joe Paparone did the same in the second game for the Dukes (18-12, 10-8) in their West Suburban Silver sweep. Joey Grollo, Joe Boozell, Paparone and Jake Rzeszutko each contributed 2 RBI.
