Huntley 16, Dundee-Crown 5 (6 innings): The Red Raiders (10-9, 5-2) started off slow, but they broke the game open with a 7-run fourth inning and an 8-run sixth to earn a Fox Valley Conference road victory over the Chargers. Tara Lycos went 4-for-5 with 3 runs and drove in a run while Randi Peterson (double, 2 RBI), Angela Tribuzzio (3 RBI), Kelsey Hagan (3 RBI) and Nikki DeMarco (RBI) recorded 2 hits apiece. D-C’s Amanda Eissler went 3-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI and Melany Love drove in a run. Taylor Larson (8-7) earned the victory, tossing 5 innings, scattering 6 hits, walking 3 and striking out 4. Eissler suffered the loss for the Chargers after allowing 6 hits, 3 walks, and 4 earned runs while striking out 3 in 3 innings.
Burlington Central 14, North Boone (5 innings): The Rockets (10-9, 4-1) pounded out 11 hits and took advantage of 7 North Boone errors to cruise in the Big Northern East. Rebecca Roscher (6-2) gave up just 1 hit in 3 innings of work to earn the victory. She struck out 4. Haley Albamonte paced the Rockets offensively, going 4-for-4 with a double, while Audrey Djukic was 2-for-3 with a double.
Hampshire 2, IMSA 0: The Whip-Purs (4-14) earned a nonconference road victory as they defeated IMSA in Aurora. Ally Bosley provided 3 of the Whips’ 6 hits including a triple and 2 RBI. Christina Potempa, Grace Jakubowski, and Kendall Walker each recorded 1 hit. Jen Hurst (3-8) earned the victory in the circle as she scattered 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out seven in this complete-game shutout.
Geneva 3, Streamwood 0: The Sabres (3-15, 2-7) hung close, but could not push a run across as they fell to Geneva 3-0 in Upstate Eight Conference action. Andrea Barajas and Dani Fisher each went 1-for-2 for the Sabres. Kaitlyn Hedger took the loss as she threw 6 innings, allowing 5 hits and 2 walks while striking out 1.
St. Edward 11, Aurora Christian 0 (6 innings): The Green Wave (11-7, 7-2) extended their winning streak to 8 games as they easily handled Suburban Christian Conference opponent Aurora Christian on the road. Tarah McShane (3-for-4, 3 triples, 4 RBI) and Kali Kossakowski (3-for-3, 4 runs, 3 stolen bases, RBI) led the offensive onslaught while Kelsey Richmond (2 RBI), Sarah Field (triple) and Ashley Gradisher (2 runs) added 2 hits apiece. Field (10-7) earned the victory as she scattered 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 5 in 3 innings of work.
McHenry 6, Jacobs 5: The Golden Eagles carried a 3-0 lead into the fifth inning, but could not hold on in this Fox Valley Conference game at home. Natalie Chapa and Alyssa Lach each recorded a double for Jacobs (10-10, 4-4). Marissa Lombardo (4-4) suffered the loss as she walked two and struck out two in 2 innings of work.
Lake Park 12, Larkin 0: The Royals (8-15, 1-8) managed just 2 hits in this Upstate Eight Conference loss to the visiting Lancers. Alex Buhrow recorded a double to lead Larkin. Kiernan Schock suffered the loss despite striking out 4 and walking 2 in 7 innings of work.
Cary-Grove 3, Crystal Lake South 0: The Trojans (19-1, 9-0) remained perfect in Fox Valley Conference play as they took an early lead on the Gators and held on for the victory. Lindsay Efflandt (17-1) threw a 3-hitter and allowed just 1 walk while striking out 9 for the complete-game victory. Emma Gaulke (2-for-3, RBI), Lisa Semro (2-for-3, double), and Eleni Polites (1-for-2, RBI) paced the Trojans offensively. Sam Golf suffered the loss as she gave up 6 hits and 4 walks while striking out 6.
College softball
Judson breaks single-season win record: The Eagles (32-14) took Game 1 of a doubleheader against Carthage College 6-2 to break the record for most wins in a single season before falling in the nightcap 5-4. Nicole Dimiceli launched her 37th career home run, a grand slam that broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the sixth inning. Emily England and Haley Secor (RBI) each added 2 hits. Sam Gladen earned her 13th victory of the season as she struck out 7 and walked 3.
In Game 2, Carrie Sensor and Hallie Niewold (2 RBI) each recorded 2 hits while Dimicelli and Allison Catlett each added an RBI. Sarah Boyer (10-5) suffered the loss as she pitched a complete-game and struck out 4.
The Eagles now wait to see who they will play in the CCAC Tournament as they try to win their first CCAC Tournament championship.
