The Jacobs girls soccer team went to penalty kicks to get it done Thursday, but the Golden Eagles did get it done.
The Golden Eagles (9-2) played to a draw and then converted on 3 penalty kicks to earn a 1-0 victory over Mundelein in the Pepsi Showdown.
Catie Sherman, Cassidy Sherman, and Shannon Grady all converted on their penalty kicks for Jacobs.
Monica Orjeula turned away 4 shots on goal during regulation and made 2 huge stops during penalty kicks.
The Golden Eagles take on Glenbrook South at noon Saturday at Olympic Park in Schaumburg in the next round.Huntley 3, Sycamore 0: The Red Raiders (5-0) notched another victory as Aimee Wronski recorded a hat trick to lead Huntley past Sycamore in a Pepsi Showdown game. Alyse Williams and Bre Burry each recorded an assist while Kaytlyn Owens turned away 4 shots on goal to preserve the shutout. The Red Raiders will take on Wheaton North at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Olympic Park in Schaumburg in the next round.
Streamwood 5, East Aurora 1: Hannah McGlone tallied a hat trick and Kim Jimenez netted the other 2 goals as the Sabres easily defeated East Aurora at the West Aurora Tournament. Amy Tyszkiewicz added 2 assists while Brianna Roppo recorded 8 saves in goal.
Cary-Grove 5, McHenry 2: The Trojans took an early lead and never looked back as they defeated McHenry on the road. Korey Kronforst found the back of the net 3 times to pace the Trojans offensively while Liz Koch and Jae Jay Usab scored one goal a piece. Krystal Felderman turned away 2 shots on goal.
St. Edward 1, Rosary 0 (PK#146;s): The Green Wave (4-1-1, 1-0) pulled out a thrilling shootout victory as they defeated Rosary on the road 4-3 in penalty kicks. Allison Kruck, Monica Ramierez, Corey Lepoudre, and Paige Gannon each converted on their penalty kick. Gannon also was the Green Wave netminder as she recorded 10 saves to preserve the shutout.
Burlington Central 6, Byron 0: The Rockets (1-4, 1-0) picked a good time to go on a scoring rampage as they earned their first victory of the season over Big Northern opponent Byron. Heather Krup recorded 2 goals while Maddie Stoneman, Bailey Panjkovich, Michelle Fowler, and Karrington Bell added 1 goal apiece. Caitlin Solberg preserved the shutout in goal with 4 saves.
