Boys basketball / Northwest roundup

Style points weren’t important for Conant’s boys basketball team Friday night.

What was important to the Cougars was snapping a three-game Mid-Suburban West and overall losing streak with a 43-32 victory at Hoffman Estates.

And what was also important for the Cougars (12-6, 4-3) was getting a game-high 20 points and five 3-pointers from senior Dylan Bartuch and London Dokubo holding Hoffman scoring leader Austin Terry to 2 points of his 12.7 average.

“It was kind of typical and very similar to the way we played them last time,” Conant coach Tom McCormack said. “(Dokubo) had some help from his friends but he did a really good job.”

Hoffman (4-14, 0-7) came out in a zone and played it most of the game as Conant led 15-10 at halftime.

The Cougars extended the lead to 27-20 lead after three when Bartuch beat the buzzer with a 3 off a floor-length inbound play. Bartuch finished 5-for-10 behind the arc.

The Cougars finished 14-for-19 at the free-throw line. London Dokubo added 7 points, Avery Osby had 6 rebounds and McCormack was happy with Brian Wadsworth’s interior defense.

Matt Pahl led Hoffman with 8 points and Alex Bonds added 7 points. Terry had 8 rebounds and 2 assists.

Hersey 80, Wheeling 70: Career nights from Sean Reszotko and Kevin Kozil helped Hersey remain in a tie for the MSL East lead and offset a career performance by Wheeling’s Ricky Schwind.

Reszotko scored 20 points and Kozil had 12 as the Huskies (11-7, 6-1) had five players in double figures. Reszotko’s previous high was 14 points and Kozil’s was 10.

Connor Miklasz (15 points), Tom Sutrinaitis (11 points) and Justin Jobski (10 points) helped Hersey rebound from its first East loss last Saturday to Rolling Meadows.

Schwind poured in 30 points to eclipse his previous best of 22 and matched his career-high for 3s in a game with seven. Charlie Kirk had 13 points, Tyler Shapiro scored 11 and Matt Hart added 9 as Wheeling (4-15, 0-7) lost its 10th straight game.

Maine West 57, Maine East 49: Conor Hart scored a game-high 24 points as Maine West (12-7, 4-3) snapped a three-game Central Suburban North losing streak at Maine East (3-15, 0-7). Odera Eneogwe returned from a two-game absence because of illness and scored 16 points.
