TEAMDance Illinois rocks the house in Wauconda
More than 900 girls ages 9 to 18 donned their flashiest outfits and brought their best moves to the annual TEAMDance Illinois regional Wauconda Invitational on Sunday. Fifty-five teams from around the Chicago area descended on Wauconda High School to qualify for the TEAMDance Illinois State championships.
The teams were composed of an average of 17 girls each and performed routines to music of their choice. The music ranged from Sesame Street's Ernie singing his rubber ducky song to main stream hip hop music. Each team tried to stand out with their own individual looks and choreography.
Teams were divided in to several categories of dance styles that included Hip Hop, Pom, Kick, Lyrical, Open Dance and Open Pom. The teams were then divided in to various divisions, AA, AAA, Junior Varsity, TEAMDance Youth Novice and TEAMDance Youth Independent.
The TEAMDance Illinois organization has 29 regional completions that culminate with in the state championships in Peoria on March 6. The event will gather high school-level teams from around the state. The Feb. 13 championship at Argo Community High School is for the TEAMDance Illinois youth teams.
